“Mythos”

If “Mythos” had not been written by Stephen Fry, I do not see how it could have been a best-seller. Indeed, even now I struggle to believe that Fry wrote all of it.

It’s like Homer meets ‘Eastenders’ or ‘Dallas’.

Some parts of the book (too many in fact) just make you cringe: inane dialogue spouting from Olympian gods, cheap (mainly sexual) innuendo, attribution of thoughts and feeling as if they were factual.

I understand – and in part, applaud – the desire to try and ‘bring mythology to the masses’ – but I’m afraid this isn’t that good a book. Personally, I prefer a dry, un-opinionated telling of the legends.
