Yesterday was one of those where I seemed to spend a fair amount of time engaged in chasing my tail to some degree. No, perhaps that’s not correct. I’ll explain.
As planned, I did a little more work on the opening of ‘Z’ – a chunk of that time spent re-writing what I’d already written in order to transfer it from past to present tense. I’m just happier in the present…
Does that count as tail-chasing?
Also as planned, the evening was spent at Ripon Writers’ Group where a copious amount of poetry was shared – both members’ own and that of other poets. I think it fair to say that it was a relaxed evening with lots of variety on offer, theme, style and quality.
Along the way (and here comes the bits-and-pieces part) I spent some time ferreting out and then entering or (not some) competitions – haven’t they suddenly become really expensive?!; I tried to give Twitter a bit more focus to see what difference more proactive engagement on my side might make; I added an entry to my writing notebook with further thoughts about what I should be writing next; I revisited what I’ve already written in terms of Crash follow-up (just to read you understand)…
See what I mean? Lots of ‘stuff’, but nothing too substantial.
Today may prove to be a similar day as Andy has called off my Crash rehearsal owing to a diary conflict. Apart from attending a Zoom reading of the Magma poetry competition winners this evening, that had been the only solid thing in my calendar.
I daresay I’ll write some more of the ‘Z’ opening before then, and probably have a Crash read-through here. I have the sensation that there’s something just bubbling under the surface waiting to see the light of day (an idea? a short story?); if so, maybe that might suddenly consume me…
