Small steps; as long as you’re making progress, giant strides aren’t always needed. Take yesterday for example: a run-through of Crash; more Alma Road editing; a little more drafted on a short story; sending out June’s Coverstory books‘ newsletter; admin work around both New Contexts: 5 and an upcoming Stanza Group meeting; and some more Twitter interaction (not my natural milieu!).
Actually there was one interesting question on Twitter yesterday: did people think a writer needed a brand? Sadly, I think these days the answer is ‘yes’. In my own case I am hoping to build my own not just through my writing, but through all my other literature-related activities, such as Coverstory books, the Contextual readings etc. I had one submission for New Contexts: 5 thanks to being found on Twitter – which perhaps is showing that the effort is beginning to pay dividends?
And at the end of the day, a flurry of emails with the Theatre Festival organiser about the requirements for Crash: stage layout, timings etc. ‘Only five more sleeps!’ – as you might say to an excited child…
Today will probably look a lot like yesterday (though without the Crash run-through and newsletter production). Yesterday we produced a timetable for all the things we have to do with our house move; this suggests that free-time for writing will fall off a cliff from about the 10th July, so if I find I need a deadline to get things completed, that looks like one!
