Yesterday & Today: 14th June

No writing yesterday but a large chunk of time going through the process of sending 17 Alma Road to twenty-eight agents. Now comes the waiting time… I sent them the whole novel in ebook format hoping a) it might prove easier for them to read, and b) that they might get drawn into reading it (on the phone on their way home on the Tube) and suddenly realise that they’d nearly read the whole thing!

Hope springs eternal!

The rest of the day? ‘Write-on Ripon’ proved its usual melange of style and quality, almost all on the given theme of ‘Summer’. I read an old poem I wrote about Singapore, “Cocktails in the Infinity Pool”. Then in the evening, my monthly Stanza Group. As always, good quality work and lively discussion.

One interesting thing demonstrated how subjective poetry is. I submitted my six-line poem “Jackdaws”. Two of the lines caused controversy: some people really didn’t like them and didn’t think they worked, others thought they were the best in the piece! Which, I guess, also demonstrates the value and worth of critique (or valuelessness and worthlessness)…

Completely empty schedule today now that Alma Road has been ‘launched’ – so who knows…?
