I have a confession to make. Having binge-watched Shakespeare recently, yesterday I finished viewing all six films in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings franchise. And what well-made, exciting, CGI-filled films they are. But…
…the experience confirmed to me why I don’t read or write such escapism; there are more important things for me to spend my time working on.
But that’s just personal choice – as is a clear preference for The Hobbit over The Rings…
There was more ‘Z’ yesterday too. It is only when you start putting words on the page and allow your characters to interact that they truly come alive. No matter how detailed your character profiles might be, you only really learn about them when they rub up against each other.
More ‘Z’ today of course, but for the first time in a long while no library session. I have given up my Writer-in-Residence role in readiness for our move (hopefully in about six weeks). I will also need to give up the Chair of Ripon Writers’ Group (in either three or five weeks), and Write-on Ripon about the same time.
Moving really will be a fresh start.
