Five or six weeks today I will hopefully be writing the relevant ‘Yesterday and Today’ entry from my new study, our new house. We’re starting to pack things into boxes, and I am only a couple of weeks away from needing to tackle my study…
It’s an exciting prospect, but one which is also increasingly preoccupying. I tell myself that’s why my writing hours have taken a dive: for example, yesterday I probably managed less than two hours work (‘Z’ and NC:5-related).
If that drop-off is only to be expected, that doesn’t make it any the more comfortable – no matter how much I try to explain it away. When you’re used to working anything between 3-to-7 hours a day on writing-related projects (and have been for nearly half a year!), less than two feels like I’m slacking, letting the side down.
I’ve another excuse for my abysmal performance over the last few days: Royal Ascot. I have been a fan of horse racing since a child, and so not watching the UK’s premier flat meeting of the year would be inexcusable! Yet I did so with one little voice in my head whispering that I was wasting my time – and another telling me that I just needed to chill out.
I expect we all have such voices…
Well, Ascot’s finished now, so today there really shouldn’t be any excuse (except for the fact that we’re going to start work packing the back bedroom…) More ‘Z’ then; that’s about the only thing of which I can be certain…
