Yesterday & Today: 28th June

Best not gild the lily. Not the greatest of days yesterday. And even if this was for non-writing reasons, there was an inevitable knock-on. Sometimes it can be difficult to motivate yourself to write when ‘life’ feels like giving you a minor kicking.

I did attend the Northallerton poetry reading group in the morning, and managed some NC:5 admin, but that was about it. Not a single word added to ‘Z’.

The punches in the solar plexus? A likely set-back in terms of the house move – only with respect to the date (hopefully); but when you’ve psyched yourself up for something so much and are desperately keen to move, even a small number of weeks feels like torture. The other punch was in relation to my parents – both in their 90s and with significant health issues – stubbornly thinking they can still look after themselves when they really need to be somewhere they can be looked after… Long story, and not one for here.

So today? Well, probably my penultimate session at Ripon Writers’ Group this evening; we have a guest speaker, the lady who facilitates the retreats at which I mentor. During the day I will need to return to ‘Z’; lots of time to do so, no excuses.

Apart from that?

I had an astonishingly real – and surreal! – dream last night that would make a great short story: “Where is Alan Huckerby?” I am in a rich vein of dreams at the moment. The issue is remembering it all, of course – and in the correct sequence -and then committing it to paper. I’ve tried this once or twice in the past, but usually within a few hours of waking the dream has all but vanished.

So, as much as I’d like to write the story, I suspect not – don’t you?
