I managed to get through to poems beginning ‘Q’ in my New Contexts: 5 submission reviewing yesterday – and the pattern remains consistent: 23% shortlisted, 35% long-listed, 42% rejected. On that basis it seems likely that the jury will be out on around 60-65 pieces at the end of the first cycle – so the second one will take a little while too.
Hopefully my process will give submitters some comfort that I take the whole thing very seriously; it’s in everyone’s interests to come up with a good quality end product.
Apart from that, I simply didn’t have the time for anything else yesterday. There’s an awful lot going on at the moment…
Getting through ‘R’ and ‘S’ would seem like a good NC:5 target for today. And I should pick up the threads on ‘Z’ again.
On reflection, with the prospect of moving ever nearer and the stress that brings increasingly building, I realise it’s a good job I don’t have more projects on the go right now. I had thought about kicking off a short story collection as a follow-on from Making Marks in the Sand, but I’m glad I chose not to ask for submissions just yet. Maybe that’s one for after we’ve moved.
