Yesterday & Today: 13th July

I forgot to mention in yesterday‘s post that I would be attending my last Ripon Writers’ Group meeting in the evening. Given we are going to be very busy packing etc. it seemed to make sense to settle on a defined last day as Chair.

The meeting was dedicated to the adjudication of our ‘Writing for Children’ competition – which proved a very difficult task for our judge given the variety of material submitted!

My other main preoccupation yesterday was getting through all the ‘T’ poetry submissions for New Contexts: 5. Still at about 20% of pieces have been immediately shortlisted, with 33% needing second consideration, so the numbers have been consistent throughout. 33 pieces left to read: the last poems and all the short prose.

Hopefully I will get through some more NC:5 reading today. I didn’t manage any work on ‘Z’ or anything else yesterday, and may get some done today – but the pressure to pack more things away grows, especially as it could be that our chain can still achieve completion (i.e. physically moving) in mid-August. We’d almost given up hope of that.

Based on this, I don’t think I can commit to hosting a Contextual reading in July – and perhaps August is in doubt too…
