Yesterday & Today: 17th July

Well, yesterday I finally managed to do two things in the same day again! I’m nearly through reading all the prose pieces submitted to New Contexts: 5 and I did a little work on ‘Z’. Neither are particularly earth-shattering, but I’ll settle for it.

Now Wimbledon’s finished I may get through the rest of the NC:5 submissions today – though not until after we’ve been to our Solicitor to sign some papers…

I’m not really looking forward to the next month. Perhaps it’s not having moved for 17 years, but I’m finding the whole process much more stressful than I remember it. One month from today we’ll have men starting to load our lives into a lorry…

What also doesn’t help is that my mother is on her death-bed. We’re not that close – either emotionally or geographically – but it’s still a ‘big thing’; another reason to be on tenterhooks when the phone rings.

Thinking of all that – and the fact that come mid-September both our kids will have flown the nest – I feel a little like I’m staring into a future that is a blank canvas. On the one hand, that’s great; on the other, it’s really daunting…
