More work on pulling together the initial New Contexts: 5 draft yesterday – and more horrors in terms of how some writers mis-use word processing software.
I came across a new habit where, rather than use Enter/Return to start a new line in a poem, someone has simply filled out the previous line with spaces until the next word drops into the required position; so a four-line stanza is actually made up of just one line with dozens and dozens of spaces. I confess to finding this staggering.
But then I have to remind myself that I’ve been using WP software for as long as it has been around – and probably more on average per day than the vast majority of people. But even so…
Nothing else yesterday other than kicking around a few further thoughts on the idea I had around 3am the other morning. I haven’t worked on ‘Z” for three days, though at this stage I don’t think that’s significant i.e. suggesting something terminal. In mitigation, yesterday was also a mare in terms of the house-moving process; really stressful.
More NC5 formatting today. It’s a time-consuming process because it’s important to get the draft as clean and consistent as possible first go; both the book and my writers deserve as much.
And, as an aside, having struggled with Twitter in the past, I’m finding myself dipping in on a daily basis. Firstly it is to share these posts, but also to interact with others (Writers mainly). No real idea what effect that’s having, if any; a marginal enhancement of profile perhaps…
