Yesterday & Today: 26th July

It was a low-key day yesterday with my planned work being to continue the insertion of my authors’ bios into the New Contexts: 5 draft. Still a few more to harvest.

In amongst the wait and conversations about house contract exchange (still not resolved!) I did pick up and play with an old idea for a novel. Earlier on this year I produced a kind of synopsis for it which – convinced I would never write the entire thing – I then tried to turn into a short story. I submitted to one or two places, but with no joy…

…after all, who wants to publish a synopsis? However, there is something in the concept which continues to draw me back. It is a story unlike any other I’ve ever written; to some extent it might even be ‘dangerous’ to write. Then yesterday I had an idea about the style in which it could be written – and that would be different for me too.

If I was was looking to start my writing life in my new study with something new and challenging, why couldn’t this be it?

So today I might start scratching the surface of it by attempting to write the foreword. It is a book which needs a forward, not only to set the tone but also to establish the reader’s relationship with what they are about it digest. It’s hard to describe – but if I ever write it, you’ll see what I mean..!
