Putting pen to paper – w/c 25th September

Time to look back / forward. How did I get on last week?

  • Meetings and Events –
    • a Society of Authors’ workshop on writing audio drama (via Zoom) – YES
    • attending a book launch event (via Zoom) – YES
    • attending a reading by Red Door Poets (via Zoom) – YES (this evening).
  • Writing projects –
    • continue the final revisions of 17 Alma Road – YES
    • final edit of two short stories (drafted last week) in readiness for competition entry -YES
    • initial drafting of a new short story (title known but subject not..!) – YES, and finished; plus another one started
    • seeing if I can get any further in drafting the beginning of “V” – NO
    • trying to work on some new poems – sort of… I started on what may be a new long poem / dramatic monologue akin to Crash
  • Coverstory books –
  • Sundries –
    • (c/f) defining my mentoring programme for the remainder of the year – YES
    • PLUS:
      • started a new audio recording thread, “Sonnet Man”, by recording and posting a reading of the first sonnet from Not the Sonnets. You can find it here. Hoping to record one-a-day, if they get traction.
      • entered a couple of short story competitions.

A good week. Especially pleasing is the new short story work.

So, in terms of writing-related events and writing itself, what does the next week hold?

  • Meetings and Events –
    • a meeting with the Hammond House organisation, hopefully to arrange a performance of Crash early in the new year;
    • hosting Contextual: 20 poetry reading event on Thursday (via Zoom).
  • Writing projects –
    • continue drafting the short story started last week (working title “Simmo”);
    • continue drafting the new poetic monologue (working title “Bound”);
    • recording seven more sonnets for ‘Sonnet Man’;
    • trying to work on some new poems.
  • Coverstory books –
  • Sundries –
    • drafting a Coverstory books newsletter for distribution w/c 2nd Oct.
