In reading Douglas Dunn’s The Year’s Afternoon I was struck by just how dated the poetry seemed. Though it was published in 2000, I wouldn’t have been surprised had it been written fifty years earlier. I make this assessment based on language, rhyme and the layout of the poems on the page. And some of the pieces just seem too long…
