Hamish Wilson’s two great passions are probably literature and music, and within that a specific love for people like Dylan Thomas and John Lennon. It could be argued, of course, that Thomas’ poetry fits both categories quite nicely. “Away from the Welsh Speaking Sea” was born from Wilson’s visit to Thomas’ childhood home in Swansea. The book is unique in that it contains a series of sonnets, one for each of the rooms in the house, the rooms that inspired them – yes, even ‘the smallest room’!
I think ‘The Best Room’ and ‘A Maid’s Tale’ may be my favourites. Wilson’s love of and respect for his subject is evident…
