“Reservoir 13” is unlike any book I have ever read. It is, in it’s own way, something of a tour de force. It is a book in which nothing happens – and everything happens. It is a book in which we wait for something to be revealed, and where McGregor’s structure and style enhances the tension and our expectation, until finally…. Can’t say. Spoilers. Sorry!
Having said all of that, after about 10% of the book I didn’t think I liked it. Some elements of the style frankly annoyed me. About half way through I was getting into the groove, what was really going on. And by the end I was genuinely in awe of McGregor’s achievement.
And having said all that…. There’s part of me that’s still not sure. It won’t be for everyone, that’s for certain.
