I wasn’t sure what to expect at the Ripon Writer’s Group meeting yesterday evening when we were reading members’ five-minute ‘playlets’. As it turned out it was a lot of fun!
Before that, the majority of my writing effort went on final reviews of Not the Sonnets and Once Significant Others. I feel a big push coming on over the next two or three days to get the former ‘done’.
Today sees the first Open Mic of 2023 hosted by Write-on Ripon (19:30 in the Curzon Cinema, Ripon). We’re never entirely sure of numbers of attendees; active participants tend to range between a dozen and twenty. I think our highest attendance was around thirty. Irrespective of that, the evenings are usually good fun with a very eclectic mix of prose and poetry shared.
Having had the question about performing Crash now formally answered, that’s one thing to come off my ‘waiting list’. The list is far from clear however, with drafts out at prospective literary agents, rights agents, entires into competitions… I am finding that by continually attempting things – competitions, writing to agents etc. – you tend not to dwell on those already worked on, which is a nice way of making them feel less important, even though they’re clearly not. And as a result, maybe when that good news does arrive it will feel all the more sweet!
