Yesterday I had a short story rejected by a competition in which it was entered (at least I assume it has been unsuccessful). Along with the email came some specific feedback on my story. The email was very open: the response had been written by an Artificial Intelligence (AI) bot…
Naturally I read it. The feedback was literate, ‘well written’, followed a logical structure (of course!), quoted bits from my story, made suggestions… In short, there was no way of telling it hadn’t been written by a person.
But feedback from a computer? What am I supposed to do with that?! I don’t write for a computer, I write for living readers. How can I take AI-feedback seriously?
I’ve decided that the response I received is a curiosity at best. The worry is that it could be a sign of things to come – more ‘non-human’ feedback fed to us, and in our thirst we might never be any the wiser…
Are you concerned? Is ‘judging’ by AI just one step away? How seriously would you take unmoderated AI feedback?
Yeah it is a sign of things to come. This is only the beginning with AI. I for one, want nothing to do with it.
